Ambassador Sophia: Sharing the peaceful practice of Qigong

In June 2021, GetSetUp launched a Mandarin program and started looking for Mandarin-speaking Ambassadors to share their knowledge with learners worldwide. You may have read our article about one of our first Mandarin Ambassadors, Qing. She started taking classes on GetSetUp and enjoyed it so much she soon began teaching her own courses in Qigong. But the story doesn’t end there. She also persuaded a friend to join as well. 

Soon, she, like her friend Qing, started teaching Qigong. There was an initial short learning curve teaching a movement class online. But, she quickly adapted.

“Students suggested that the actions I did were reversed, so I tried mirror teaching. After getting more familiar with the technology, I feel that I am calmer, and I can really share the peaceful feeling of Qigong with all my online friends.”

While she practiced Tai Chi for many years, she found Qigong more beneficial. 

“I practiced Tai Chi for many years, and then I practiced Qigong. Qigong and Tai Chi are not the same. After practicing Qigong, my body is fuller with Qi, and my standing and sitting postures are better. The body is more upright, and my energy is more abundant. I will do things more gently and relax my muscles. If you practice Qigong, it will benefit your health.” 

In addition to teaching, she also enjoys taking classes.

“I have also participated in other activities. For example, Sue Murray shared her experience of traveling to South Africa. I also took singing and dancing lessons in India. Indian dance is very joyful. It is very different from our Chinese dance. I have also participated in puzzle games to strengthen my brain and exercise my memory. It is also very fun.”
