Atalaya Sergi is leading seniors as the Director of AmeriCorps Seniors. She has over 20 years of experience in service, community engagement, and education. Prior to her current role, she was the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Programming at Jumpstart for Young Children, Inc. At Jumpstart, she managed AmeriCorps State and National and AmeriCorps Seniors programs. As a federal grantee, she launched Jumpstart's AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent program.

Atalaya has been a member of several advisory committees, councils, and coalitions. She is a co-founder of Los Angeles Generation to Generation. This organization engages older adults to support young children across Los Angeles County. She has also worked in public school districts and the nonprofit sector. Thus, her experience includes both private and public organizations. Throughout her work, she has ensured people of all ages, as well as those in underserved communities, thrive.

She was also selected as an Encore Public Voices Fellow. As a Fellow, she wrote about the positive impact seniors can have in educational settings.

She told Encore, “I want us to see older adults as contributors to the conversation, as problem solvers, as answers to our prayers. I have experienced the impact they can have in the education and the non-profit space, I know firsthand the difference they can make.”

Atalaya Sergi has dedicated her career to systemic change. She strives to empower those who have been marginalized and under-resourced. With a master's in social work and a bachelor’s degree in sociology, she’s out to truly change the world.

“I am passionate about designing and implementing innovative and sustainable programming that results in impactful outcomes. It is important to me that stakeholders work together to craft solutions that will meet the needs of their unique communities. The foundation of my work is based in social justice; diversity, equity and inclusion; and cultural relevancy.”
