Tips for caring for your skin this summer

It’s time to get through the anti-aging rhetoric when it comes to skincare and health. We know we are aging and we can’t  reverse time, but we can care for ourselves from here on so that we age healthier and happier.

This has never been truer than with skin in the summer. Make sure you are protecting your skin as summer hits full swing and heat waves sweep the globe.

Pilar’s skin care tips

GetSetUp Guide Pilar has worked in the cosmetic and leisure industries for most of her life. Now, as a health and wellness coach, she’s focused on helping others live healthily and happily as they age. She’s out to help others make life-altering choices as she did 13 years ago when she struggled with obesity and chose to shift to a healthier and more fulfilled version of herself.

Make sure to try one or more of Pilar’s tips for pampering yourself and caring for your skin this summer.

  • Detoxify The Skin - This is the perfect time of the year to detoxify the skin, especially after being inside for so long. The best way to detoxify the skin is from the inside out and drinking alkaline water or water with lemon first thing in the morning will do wonders.
  • Take A Break From Retinoids and Vitamin C - If using any retinoids or vitamin C skincare products, give them a break during the summer months. They can do more harm than good if you are spending a lot of time outdoors. A break from them will help the skin get renewed. After 2 weeks of stopping them, exfoliating the skin at least once a week will help get it renewed faster. A homemade oatmeal mask is highly recommended.
  • Use Sunscreen - A must-wear during the summer (and all year round, of course) is sun protection. Be aware that sunblocks do have an expiration date so it is important to have one that is current. The texture is also important and due to the high temperatures and humidity, a lightweight, waterproof, and at least SPF 35 is highly recommended.
  • Aloe Vera Mask - Since we may get a little too much sun, try incorporating an aloe vera mask once a week. Simply open an aloe vera leaf and extract the gel and apply it directly to the skin and leave it on for about 10 -15 minutes. It will be very cooling and refreshing as well as hydrating.
  • Honey Detoxifier - For some indulgence, take local honey and apply it all over the face (except the eye area) and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes. Honey is an amazing detoxifier and very soothing to the skin.

These are five simple tips even for those who don’t normally pamper themselves. Want to learn more?
