The first GetSetUp Startup Accelerator Program received 392 applications from around the world.
Each week we'll highlight participants in the program. Our first selectees include educators.
Mantel from Pennsylvania is an adult researcher and educator with a doctorate in human development from Drexel University as well as credentials in social gerontology from Rutgers University. He will be building out his business: EVOLVE@50+. This digital platform enables people 50+ to learn and apply strategies that optimize their health, work, and wealth so that they thrive in mid and late-life by living stronger and longer, never retiring, and becoming financially free.
Jane from the UK is an occupational therapist, neuro-linguistic programming master practitioner, and hypnotherapist. She will build out her coaching and training business to help people who have received life-changing diagnoses or experienced life-changing events. She will teach them to reconnect, reinvent life, and find meaning and purpose. Her six-month program will provide six change management and identity development workshops, coaching calls, and monthly support calls.
Mary from California became a teacher at the age of 50. While she loved teaching, it didn’t allow her to think outside the box. In addition, she gained weight and got out of shape. She went on to lose 50 pounds, and her fitness transformation inspired her to become a personal trainer at age 66 and explore entrepreneurship. She will build her functional training fitness classes, and later a clothing line. Her classes focus on building muscle to ensure active aging, more vital lives, and to help avoid chronic disease, debilitating injuries, and overall frailness that comes with age.
Lynn from Michigan is a retired teacher with degrees in biology, chemistry, and mathematics as well as a master’s degree in educational design and media technology. After becoming a widow, she retired in order to have time to think through all the significant life changes that had occurred within a single year. She found the transition from being a caregiver, closely connected to family and work community, to being widowed, retired, and isolated very difficult. She will build out her coaching and support system focused on a positive space to help widows figure out what they want now and in the future.
Be sure to check out the Startup Accelerator Series of classes to follow the entrepreneurs' progress or learn more strategies for your own business.
