Sweet strawberries recipes

Strawberry scones are easy to whip up in under an hour. They are perfect for freezing and keeping for whenever dessert cravings strike. When making pastries, keep the dough cool to keep the butter from melting and achieve that decadent flaky texture. Try this strawberry scone recipe from Two Peas and their Pod.

With the heat and humidity here, Sanjeev Kapor’s Strawberry Crush Drink is delightfully refreshing. Learn how to make this recipe step by step in a recording of Sanjeev’s Guest Speaker Class

Last but not least is a two-ingredient recipe that dances on the tongue. Simply cut up a few strawberries and place them in a small dish. Then sprinkle them with sugar and wait 10 minutes to an hour for an easy strawberry glaze that can be eaten as is or added to any other recipe. Some favorite methods for enjoying this recipe include mixing it with ice cream and whipped cream or drizzling it on crepes.

Savory strawberry recipes

“Savory” is not a concept often associated with fresh fruit. However, savory strawberries recipes are a delicious way to spice up dishes. Salmon pairs nicely with sliced or glazed strawberries. Or try adding strawberry salsa to any dish by mixing lime juice, jalapenos, red onion, honey, and strawberries. Proportions are to taste but try using this recipe from Gimme Some Oven for a delicious easy take on this innovative dish. Throw some strawberries on a flatbread or in a Caprese salad! The options are endless, just let your tastes lead the way.

Health benefits

Strawberries are not only tasty but contain a variety of health benefits including modulating the expression of genes, protecting DNA damage, and acting as an antioxidant. Ancient peoples used strawberries as medicine. Native Americans treated burns and sores with the berries while across the world Romans used strawberries to cure everything from bad breath to blood diseases. Today, this superfood is one of the best tasting cancer preventing snacks around. Recent animal studies even found that strawberries can ease brain aging.

Storing Strawberries

Although these delicious fruits are available year-round in many places, they taste the best when in season. This is why storing fresh strawberries is a great idea for those with a bit of freezer space to spare. All that is needed is to destem the strawberries, wash and dry them, then place in a freezer bag. For storing strawberries short-term, place them in mason jars unwashed. Just make sure to remove any soft spots before storing them in this manner.
